DDV #80 - Country Bear Jamboree Holiday Hoedown

This the story about the Country Bears, and in particular the Holiday Hoedown show. I give some insights into the attraction, and play the audio for you.

The show ran from 1984 until about 2000, and was a bit of fun. The entire building was redecorated, and the bears were wearing holiday costumes. And the script and songs were different.

It was kind of fun to get into the holiday spirit.  For me personally, it was always fun to try and time a visit so I could catch the show, since it had a limited run.

DDV #79 - My holiday experience as a CastMember

Back in 1992, when I was a CastMember, I had the pleasure of working over the holidays. This podcast is a story about that time, and in particular my experience on New Year's eve. It was a really fun time, and I still remember it fondly - so I thought I'd share the story.

DDV #76 - The Enchanted Tiki Room

This podcast is a trip into the tiki room. Hear a little info about it, then come along and listen to the preshow, followed by the full show.

Please Enjoy!

I have to say that I am really glad they've restored this to something more interesting/appropriate. I really was not a fan of the "Under New Management" silliness.

Bye bye Iago. Bye bye Zazu!

DDV #74 - audio from the Hall of Presidents

This episode is simply the audio from the Hall of Presidents. Another time, I will have to look into this attraction in some detail.

But for now, enjoy Morgan Freeman talking about our story and the 44 men who have held the highest office in this country. And here from some of them, including our current president.

DDV #73 - Q&A with Dave

Dave is back to answer your Disney questions. This week the questions range from how to retrieve photopass photos after "expriation"?, to what to do with an extra day - maybe Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party?, and whether Disney's Visa card is worthwhile? Also: how will someone with special needs be accomodated? And there's a fairly lengthy answer to a question obout Disney's future plans for the monorail. Keep the questions coming! davesdisneyview@gmail.com

With regard to the monorail question, its "complicated" and I went through many sources to try and get a satisfactory answer - but I don't think there is one...for now!

For special needs questions, here are a couple of resources:

DDV #72 - A look at some of the stories of the Haunted Mansion

Because we are getting close to Halloween, I wanted to talk about one of my favorite attractions in the Magic Kingdom: the Haunted Mansion. Joining me on this podcast is Kristi Petersen Schoonover who has her own blog http://kristipetersenschoonover.com which delves into the infamous Mansion and the stories behind the story, and more.

Its a fun look at something that is appropriate for this time of year.

Along the way, we discuss a site called http://davelandweb.com/ in which that Dave shows pictures of items in the Haunted Mansion.

You can find her book at Amazon.

DDV #71 - Hidden Mickeys

This show is all about Hidden Mickeys! What are they? How did they get there? What's the history behind them? How can I find them?

Essentially, they are images of the famous mouse "hidden in plain sight" by imagineers.

Its a fun look at something else you can do at the Disney theme parks.

But that's not all!

I also created an iPhone app to store and share Hidden Mickeys in a community environment. You can play around with it - or if you don't have an iphone (or have photos you want to share that aren't on your phone) you can visit the community site at http://disneypodcast.net/hidden-mickey

DDV #70 - News for October 2011

Its time for another round of Disney news. This week, I look a little outside of Walt Disney World, and talk about Aulani and the Disney Cruise Line, before returning "home."

I've got some info about Avatar, some new in-park experiences, the Verizon app, and Cirque du Soleil.

I've also got a clip of Roy's dedication speech from 40 years ago.

DDV#69 - Disney's Water Parks

Over the summer, the family took a trip to Disney - simply to enjoy the water parks. I talk about both of the parks, and tell some stories about our trip.

One of the coolest things has to be the view from the top of Teamboat Springs - from there you can see all 4 of Disney's Theme Parks.

The water parks are a hoot, and I highly recommend visiting them.

DDV #68 - My Year With The Mouse

On this episode, I focus on DisneyLand with the help of a guest - Shelby who is your blog host on http://myyearwiththemouse.com. She is a frequent guest to the park (and lives the dream of being so close she can see the fireworks from her kitchen!) and fellow Disney fan.

Find out why the site is named that, as we give some (deserved) love to the park that started it all. And even if you haven't been to DisneyLand in a long time (like me), you can still appreciate what its all about.

Incidentally, Shelby was a contestant on NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" and won Carl's voice on her voicemail.

DDV #67 - Epcot - Living with the Land & Captain EO

I didn't want to miss these two attractions. I really liked *Listen* to the land, with its guided tour (hey there's a podcast for the future!), but this one isn't half bad. Come along as I ride it.

And Captain EO is a classic. Sure the technology is now old, and the 80s vibe shines through the costuming. But its fun and worth visiting again.

DDV #66 - Epcot - SpaceShip Earth

On this episode, I take a ride on SpaceShip Earth. Come along and listen to your host, Judi Densch, tell the tale of communications. And hear my comments on a few things as well.

I also take a listen to the Spanish version, and find a hidden Mickey.

DDV #62 - The Kitchen Kabaret

On this episode, I look back at the Kitchen Kabaret, a long-gone attraction in EPCOT's Land Pavillion. It was in the genre of the Country Bear Jamboree, and was a cute look at nutrition and the basic food groups.

Plus there was a catchy tune - veggie, veggie, fruit!, fruit! - that made it memorable.

So come hear all about it, and listen to the attraction audio.

I'd like to throw a plug out the for Mike Lee and his hard work putting together a lot of information about the attraction. You can visit him on the web at http://www.omniluxe.net/wyw/kk.htm

DDV #61 - Q and A with Dave - and Curt (part 2)

Dave and Curt are back to answer more of your Disney questions. What's a family to do, when they love Disney but want to see the Harry Potter exhibit? And, we talk about the Illuminations cruise options to celebrate a big anniversary.

Too bad the Breathless suffered a "career ending injury" and is no longer in service. But there are still pontoon boats, and other options. Or you could dream big and rent the luxury yacht at the Grand Floridian for a Fireworks cruise.

At the end of the show, Curt brings up a point that I tend to think like relative local, and prefer short more-frequent trips, where most visitors like to take in the whole Disney experience on less-frequent trips.

DDV #60 - Q&A with Dave - and Curt (part 1)

Dave is back to answer your Disney questions, and this time I've brought some help! Curt and I take on some of the questions I've been asked recently. Its a show that's so big, I had to break it into two parts! In this part, We talk about thanksgiving, the weather in late summer, fun things to do with kids in EPCOT, and what's a Disneyland vet to do in WDW?

DDV #59 - Married to the Mouse

This week, I welcome Rick Foglesong to the show. Rick wrote Married to the Mouse about a decade ago. The book is about the relationship between Disney, the state of Florida, and the two counties in which it resides. Its an interesting read, and I recommend it.

We delve into this complex relationship, and talk about some general topics in political science as they relate to Disney. But fear not! This is a fun discussion and there is no final exam.

Among the topics:

  • Did you know that Walt was *this close* to opening a park in St Louis before he found Florida?
  • Did you know that Disney has tremendous authority for land use?
  • Would you believe that Walt understood the issues of having permanent residents in his EPCOT?
  • Did the company use the concept of EPCOT to its advantage after Walt's death?

And there's so much more. The show is longer than usual (about 37 minutes), but I think you'll agree it is well worth it.

Rick was great to talk with, and I think you'll enjoy the conversation.

Married to the Mouse is available on Amazon. Please consider making a purchase through my Amazon affiliate store. (use the text link above)

You can visit Rick on the web at www.richardfoglesong.com

DDV #58 - Tapestry of Nations

For the millennium celebration, Disney rolled out the Tapestry of Nations parade, or more aptly show. It was a larger-than-life exhibit with giant puppets (made by the same guy who did the puppets for the Lion King on Broadway), and rotating drums.

It went on for about 4 years, before it faded off. The musical score was beautiful, and I share it and a little history with you on this podcast.

I'll be honest and say this was one of my favorite productions ever, and I miss it.

DDV #57 - A few attractions in the studios

In this podcast, I visit the Studios. You can check out the audio from the Toy Story Midway Mania ride, and the Muppet Vision show.

Also, I talk about One Man's Dream, and give some info about the multiplane camera, which is exhibited there. I love how you can learn a little something while you're having fun. That's cool.

Over at Muppetvision, you can check out the old overflow queue, and the attention to detail.

The faces on pipes are amazing.

And of course, you have to read the signs as you go through! There's some funny stuff buried in them.
