The second host of SpaceShip Earth is the one most people remember as being the voice of the attraction - and really the voice of Epcot. Of course, he's uncle Walter - Walter Cronkite. Respected as a journalist, Cronkite adds a certain authority to the audio. On this show, its Walter's narration of SpaceShip Earth.

His voice could be heard from 1986-1995, but to me he will always be *the* voice of the attraction. This was certainly the version I enjoyed the most.

Today, I'm talking about Pin Trading.

I follow the history and answer: How did it start? And roll around to : How do I do it?

Its pretty thorough except for one simple thing that I failed to mention: green lanyards on CastMembers means they trade only with children.

I also delve into what you might trade, different types of pins that are available to trade, and even where you might get some pins a little cheaper to get you started.

Its a fun activity that really doesn't cost much and is easy to get home.

As for me, I don't trade, but I do have a couple of pins, including the 5-legged goat that appears on the mural in the Contemporary.

DDV #80 - Country Bear Jamboree Holiday Hoedown

This the story about the Country Bears, and in particular the Holiday Hoedown show. I give some insights into the attraction, and play the audio for you.

The show ran from 1984 until about 2000, and was a bit of fun. The entire building was redecorated, and the bears were wearing holiday costumes. And the script and songs were different.

It was kind of fun to get into the holiday spirit. For me personally, it was always fun to try and time a visit so I could catch the show, since it had a limited run.

One of the coolest things has to be the view from the top of Teamboat Springs - from there you can see all 4 of Disney's Theme Parks.

The water parks are a hoot, and I highly recommend visiting them.

And Captain EO is a classic. Sure the technology is now old, and the 80s vibe shines through the costuming. But its fun and worth visiting again.

DDV #58 - Tapestry of Nations

For the millennium celebration, Disney rolled out the Tapestry of Nations parade, or more aptly show. It was a larger-than-life exhibit with giant puppets (made by the same guy who did the puppets for the Lion King on Broadway), and rotating drums.

It went on for about 4 years, before it faded off. The musical score was beautiful, and I share it and a little history with you on this podcast.

I'll be honest and say this was one of my favorite productions ever, and I miss it.

I still love the kitchy nature of this place - in spite of the fact the car hops aren't quite as interactive, there are no roller skates, and the menu doesn't quite evoke the 50s feel that it once did.

I arrived at Disney World on Wednesday, and spent a little time on the Boardwalk, then went to the Studios, and Epcot, before finally heading to Downtown Disney for a while.

Then, on Saturday after the hunt, I spent some time in the Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom.

I give some thoughts about the time I spent doing that, and also talk about the restaurants that I checked out while I was there.

Plus, since I was staying at the Saratoga Springs resort, I give my thoughts on the property and the DVC experience.

I have seen Weird Al perform many times at the parks. There was Grad Nite for me, and I saw several of his shows that evening. And then there was a night out at Pleasure Island where it was a giant sing-along; he did costume changes and had a really fun show.

I explore his history with the parks - though he is just a fan as I am. Also I play a clip from his song "Skipper Dan" which is a fun parody of the Jungle Cruise skippers.

With the removal of ToonTown, I wanted to pay tribute to the original idea and how it came about. Mickey's Birthdayland was created to celebrate Mickey's 60th birthday and was only supposed to be be temporary. But it was fairly popular, and Disney realized that guests wanted to meet Mickey, and so expanded on the idea. I talk about this new land, and what it was all about. In this episode, I finish my thoughts about being a CM by telling a couple of fun stories and wondering what-if? What if I had stayed?

The what-if scenario plays out in my mind all the time. Sure I have no regrets, but everyone asks themselves this regularly day, don't they? What if I had done something differently?

I talk briefly about my decision to leave, and the reasons for it. Naturally (as most men will tell you is the case when there's a "life altering" decision to be made) there was a woman involved. Whether I was right or wrong at the time is irrelevant. It was complicated, and I had to move on. Enough said.

It was a most interesting time in my life, and I'll never forget it, and always treasure it.

I do have more stories to tell, and will sprinkle them into other podcasts.

I had a blast talking with Hoot. He told me some GREAT stories about his time jumping off the attraction in order to document it completely.

I'm Going To Disney World! (show #2)

In this episode I explore the origins of "I'm going to Disney World!"...which - believe it or not - was first uttered by Dick Rutan after he successfully circumnavigated the globe. Judy Eisner asked him at a dinner what he was going to do next, and he uttered the catch phrase.

In the podcast, I incorrectly attribute the phrase to his brother, Bert. Bert helped design the craft and is an amazing engineer. But he was not on the flight.

Of course the first person to utter the immortal words in an ad campaign was Phil Simms after he won a SuperBowl.
